I think the copper/nickel alloy is the way to go and is legal everywhere. Strong and no rust. Seems like it would still be a good idea to clear coat them.
 
I found a company in Ohio that makes new lines, stainless or metal real nice work. Close to me but I gave them my old lines and they made the bends, very pleased I used stainless. The Right Stuff Detailing- 1-800-405-2000 They have a catalog they price Sprite parts compairing AMC parts for length. You could easily ship most of our needs.

FOR BRAKES "Use only Bundyweld steel 3/16"OD hydraulic tubing, terne or Cu plate.(dash 3 for flex lines)"

FOR CLUTCH "Use 1/4" OD / dash 4 (clutch moves more fluid)"

On another forum I participate, in members are ALWAYS complaining about cheap flare tools. Usually they don't hold the tubing tightly enough and the tube slips ruining the flare. Be prepared. Bob
