Anyone know the original color of the Air Injection Manafold on a 72 "B"? After cleaning it up, It looks like it was plated with copper. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif PJ

IIRC they were painted gloss black, but my recollections are often wrong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

18V engines are painted black (everything). 18G engines are painted MG maroon (everything but the engine mounts). Both engine colors originally look as if they were painted by someone that did not care. There are always bare spots and drips and sags on the valve cover.

Air injection manifolds were painted engine color but underneath they are copper - & beautiful!

Thanks guys. I guess they will be gloss black. (With no runs), I hope. Sure do like that copper color though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gifPJ

Then, clean it & clear coat it so the copper shines!

I am guessing it's not copper on the later B's? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I opened a hood on one of my 78's the other day....AACCK! I've got alot of painting and polishing to do!

I think the best color for one is dust colored as it sitting on the shelf collecting dust and not on the car /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

LoL, good point.

Ain't that the truth, Hap!

Well, I'm only trying to put her back the way she came from the factory 34 years ago. That's the only thing left under the hood that's not compleat. As simple as the system is, and it's working properly, there shouldn't be any noticable change in performance. It only goes to shows and on rare occasions, a Sunday driver. The rest of the time it sets in the barn covered up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif PJ

My '79 Vermillion Red car is like that - all original...even the owner!

My 78's are original...including paint! One even has all the original pollution equipment, in working order. I haven't done much to them in the last decade so they're going to need a major cleaning and polishing, and painting of some external engine components, might even do the blocks. Hopefully I'll get to them this summer, if not next summer it will be.

Back on topic, the peice manifold in my 80 LE looks alot better, and probably preforms much better as well.
