TR4/4A Question about a TR4

I believe that answer is a qualified yes - as in I've seen several TR4As mounted on the TR250/TR6 frame and will be attempting my own as soon as I aquire a good frame (mine has terminal rot) - but I don't know the specifics.

On the other hand, Rat-Co offers a single frame for all the models discussed, so ...

We're thinking the exact same thing. I was thinking about trying to find a TR4-a or TR4 shell and mating it up to one of Rat-co's frames... then sticking in it a hot 2.5 and a five speed.

I was thinking of doing a Group 44 treatment on it.

I think the Group 44 would be smokin'! I plan for mine to be what the Brit's call a 'fast road car', but I'm only going to do a mild flare to cover my Bullit wheel/tire combo. I'm sure you've seen all my questions concerning TR6 engines lately - just trying to figure out what the best setup for me would be. What all do you plan on doing with the 6 cyl if you do this?
 
I have been dreaming the exact same thing of late. Ratco chassis, with polyurethane and adjustable shocks already installed. 2.5 6 cyl engine, and the lovely TR4A body shell. (IMHO more attractive trim than TR250). I would use a 4A wood dash and chrome bezels. Paint it in Wedgewood blue with white minilites and there is my dream of TR.....(of course, I am just affording the toy I have so this is a long way off).

Whatever you do, please don't pass it off as a TR250. Its fine to do a "bitsa" car as long as you announce it.
 
A TR4A body on a TR6 chassis basically is a TR250.
the only diffreance I know of between a TR4A IRS chassis and a TR6 chassis is the mounting points for the steering rack were moved forward to accommidate the 2.5L motor. and some good modifications were made to the front lower control arm mounting points.
Sounds like an excellent project....hope It materializes into reality... I'd love to see that done. Subtle but effective.
I agree with Kindofblue, I think the TR4A had the nicest trim of the TR4,4A, 250 body style, and that body will definatly fit over the 6 chassis, where as a TR4 might need some tweaking.
 
Thanks for the help. I've got a few cool ideas for this project... right now I'm just trying to find a body shell to work with. That's turning out to be a the project!

I don't want to turn this into a 250 clone, but rather my own creation while still attempting to remain true to the marque.

I plan to paint the car white and it will definetly have the 2.5 six with handling and brake upgrades..(rear disc if I can figure out how to do it.)

If anyone has any ideas about where to find a shell I'd appreciate it.
 
welll. I've got both halves of a 66 TR4A body, but that statement alone tells you what kind of shape it's in.... I was planning on making the rear half into a BBQ grille

Actually, the local LBC guy has a stripped shell sitting out back - has some surface rust but I think it's ok. Of course Arkansas is a fair bit from North Carolina ...
