Jim - I need an excuse to come down to Niceville....maybe to deliver parts or a car that's been sandblasted?
 
The steering shaft completely covers the little slot that you can get a wrench in to loosen the rubber piece... And this is just a problem on RB B's as I recall.
 
& it won't really slice the steering rack tube....I was just trying to see how excited I could get ya, Janel! Went outside & looked at the sky in your direction to see if there were any fireworks...hehehehe
 
LOL... Tony - I saw some lightning that way earlier today! I see alot of cars without that crdboard panel. I figure mine is original, and now it has scars in it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Oh, well.
 
hmmmmm... carboard panel? where is this here panel you're talking about? I have a chunk of carboard up in front of my radiator, but nothing anywhere near my engine... Is there supposed to be something between the radiator and engine, besides the fan? Inquiring minds want to know!

and JB, did DH remove the ghastly device and install the new artificial heart, or did you sawzall the thingy out and hook up the new heart?
 
Rob - you need to order a 'mud shield' #458-195....not only does it protect the front of the engine from road water, eyc - it also helps channel air under the engine instead of up into the engine compartment making your engine cooling system work better
 
A cardboard "trough" was put under the radiator, extending back so's to cover the front engine area. Kinda "stone guard/air deflector".
 
We made our own 'mud shield.'

And I'm still trying to get sick, there was no way you could have gotten me too riled up last night because basically I feel like ca-ca again.

Problem is, the Polar Bear Run is Sunday, 9am, topdown rally. High predicted 34 degrees, 15-20mph winds. I don't want the car disabled before then. THEN, there's an SCCA rally in March, and April 1 & 2nd is the MO Endurance Rally, 24 hours, 800 miles. She has to be fixed by then.
 
I had a sergeant in the Army who, anytime he started coming down with a cold would go out and get falling down drunk - swore it drove the cold out of his system and was worth the hangover
 
anyone have pictures of what this "Mud shield" looks like installed? I'm having a hard time picturing it on the car because 1) there isn't one on mine(?) and 2) the exploded view on Moss's site aren't helping me visualize proper placement.

from what I can tell, I think I have Moss part #475-255 on my car, it's a badly mishaped chunk of cardboard that's mounted between the front valence and the radiator. There's also supposed to be a piece between the radiator and the engine (Moss part #458-195)? Based on the shape of that item, I just can't see how that thing fits under there...
 
Chuck made ours out of some sort of 'metal' - thin stuff, formed it and bolted it right in. Want me to try to get a picture of it?
 
Rob - tip it in under the harmonic dampner then settle it down on the 4 bolts sticking up (2 on each side) from the edge of the frame rails...tight squeeze & i don't know if you can do it with the radiator in the car....
 
Tony - I don't have one to install ATM. I was just wondering what this thing is supposed to look like installed on the car.

JB - I think that would be great if you could post what y'all have done. I may fab myself something similar, if it looks easy to do myself.

JB - That looks like it's infront of the radiator. I have a ratty old chunk of malformed cardboard up there, ATM. I can't comment on the engine bay, 'cause mine's just as bad + I have white overspray on stuff showing through my car's grill. 'Cept, I don't have twin air powered hooters in me 'B. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Tony - Is that the piece we've been talking about? From the discussion I thought the "Mud Shield" was on the other side of the radiator?
 
Nope - mud shield is in front of radiator...its cardboard but it doesn't channel air into the radiator
 
Please, excuse my "newbish" confusion here. If the thing is in front of the radiator, then how did the harmonic balancer gouge up Ken's cardboard?

I thought there was something between the radiator and engine, and it was this item that got scuffed in Ken's car. Am I just confusing things and making them more complicated than they actually are?
