Hi guys - can someone please quickly confirm that I need Moss #021-511 speedometer adapter to make the angle here correct. This won't work, and if I am remembering my other OD correctly there is a fitting that makes a 90-degree bend here so the speedometer cable comes in at a better angle.

Test fitting without here;

Thanks!

Well, that's clearly not a TR3, so I'm guessing it's a TR6. The TR6 takes the angle adapter, the TR3 doesn't.

I'm less familiar with them, but the factory parts catalog seems to show the angle adapter for the 4A, not the 4. Wouldn't hurt to add one, though.

Hi guys - thanks for the responses. This is a 4a with an early OD.

Seems like I need that adapter or it would be a good idea at least.

The 4A takes the angle adapter. The adapter can be used on the 4 with the shorter cable; without the adapter one would need the longer cable.

Can someone explain why one takes it and the other don't. There wasn't any changes in the production besides the IRS was there?

The whole center console/dash support changed as well as moving the handbrake to atop the tunnel. My *guess* is that the prior cable exit would foul on the new set-up.

I use an angle drive on my TR4 just because John E sent one with the gearbox -- hasn't broken yet (6 years) so why not.

On the TR4, there is a hole cut out of the floorboard so the cable can go straight through (same as on a TR3). Probably got rid of the whole setup when they relocated the emergency brake to the tunnel.

edit: Geo types faster than me..

Tom,

I picked up one cheap on eBay a while back. Looks like the cheapest one there now is $47.95 including shipping.
