Any advice is more than welcomed. Garagemajal almost complete - at about 90%. The big problem is the airplane galley and converting the voltage of the galley to household current. Have heard husband muttering 110 volt, 60 hz to 3 phase 110 volt, 400 hz. Also power converter kit. All this written on one of his notes in writing that I can bearly cipher. Anyway he is on his duty tour and I'd like to be 'smart' and come up with a solution for him. As to the aircraft overhead bins he's using for storage, he has put in florescent lights with a balast to have them have viable lighting. It is not only decorative but useful. The galley is however not coming along and he is ready to pull his hair out and he doesn't have a lot. At lost count it was 248 strands. He said that, not me.

Anyway he knows he can get a power converter but they are way too expensive.

So all you really bright guys/girls I'm not proud. I'll accept any help that you want to throw my way.

:thankyousign:

Thanks Bill. Now come on guys, surely someone can give some 'real' advice, not that I'm not grateful Bill - you tried.

You have told us what voltage the galley is

It is much easier than you think.
Just get an APU from the same place you got the galley, and a 5,000 gallon jet fuel tank, mount it all up, fill the tank, and you've got the "right" power for it.

Hopefully you live more than a mile from the nearest neighbor....closer ones might complain about the noise generated.

Any particular reason you need 3-phase 400v electric?? It probably would be easier to convert the appliances (if needed).

Unless of course you are planning on flying the garage.

Hi Judy,
You might try calling Aero Mockups here in Los Angeles. They supply airplane cabins for movies and TV shows. They should be able to tell you if they had to convert anything for standard electrical use.

My reply, albeit short and to the point, was aimed at the fact that you mentioned 3 phase. Very, very few indications for such in most homes. Very expensive to wire up. A good electrician can work around that.

The 3 phase is because of the coffee pots/hot water in the galley. I do know that it is 400 hz and must go to 60 hz to be house compatible. I heard the phrase "step down" bandied about so I presumed they meant to decrease the voltage? Anyway the suggestion of speaking with aero mockups sounds like a possibility. If the problem gets resolved I'll let you all know.

Thanks.
