QuadCopter-first try out

I have been flying my new Quadcopter this morning (WL Toys model # V262). Paid $63 for in on Amazon.

It's almost 2 feet across so it's easy to see when flying. And I've added a mini-video camera that I already had to it.

Here's my first video (below photo). Not a great flight but it was windy and this was only my 4th try ever with this. I'll get better.

"Launch pad" was my 948 street Midget:

Congrats on the new toy! Very exciting video of your lawn :jester:

(PS - stay away from tall apartment building windows, and airports. Just saying ...)

Cool Nial. Is the camera wireless? Can you see the video feed while flying it?

Nice Nial- Next time have it farther away from you...
easier on your neck

Yeah, based on that video, my lawn could use a bit of weeding. :friendly_wink:

No. But THAT would be cool! It has a tiny video camera with mini-SD card for storage.

Don: I was trying but wind plus trying to stay away from trees combined with inept pilot makes that tough.
We have a park nearby where there is much more room.....I plan on flying it there soon. First I have to get good enough not to embarrass myself in a public place.

My wife says that about me every time we go out

I never embarrass myself, my wife on the other hand........

Cool new toy Nial, looks like a lot of fun for $63.

looks like weeds Bas.

Here's one my son and a friend did with a Quad-Copter.

Now THAT is awesome! I have a friend I race with who lives in Fremont. I'm sending that to him. It will take me a long time to get that good. Like maybe never.

The green stuff is my back-yard lawn but we have "lawns" like you guys have too......we call them "the beach". :friendly_wink:

My green stuff is really a mix of grass and clover. Some of my neighbors spend all their free time getting golf-course level grass in their yards. Mine is actually more natural and just requires weekly cutting. Clover survives better and stays green without a lot of chemicals or labor. It's at it's worst right now (August). Looks real bad from Quadcopter!

Here's another 90 second video. You can see my Brit cars in the driveway and my Miata on the street just after the 1 minute mark.

Who did that roof? All the bibs are half exposed. :jester:

One of the local photogs got one of these new-fangled flying machines and a MoPic camera; now hires out to realtors to show homes on the web with the vids. 360° low aerials of the properties. Very clever marketing on both accounts.

Yeah and the roof of the pergola needs to be re-stained too.

I'm going out to play with it again. This thing is addictive.

They should just give Quadcopters out free to all the malcontents in the entire world.

Everyone would be so busy playing with them we'd have Peace and Security for sure! :highly_amused:

These could be a good use for google glasses. With a video transmitter, you could fly the copter POV. You'd only be limited by the controller range.

It would be way cool if you could have it follow your race car even if only for a little while.

I actually got interested by this due to this video from Brian Kraus (some people here may know him because he owns that bright yellow Midget powered by a Mazda rotary engine).

Brian took this video at the Jefferson 500 a couple of years ago.
I'm in it for a millisecond after the 2:30 mark (I even recall seeing this thing flying when we were racing and wondering: "What the heck is that !?!")

 Know th' feeling. But most of the folk prone to it are those with th' mindset of engineers.
