This weekend was the PVGP at Schenley Park, Pittsburgh. In yesterday's Group 4 qualifier I came in second behind Steve Koswell in a Lester MG and just ahead of Manley Ford in an MG-TD.
Today we gridded up with weather pushing in from the west and as we went out for the pace lap the wind blew up bigtime and the heavens opened--during the next two or three minutes lots of limbs and leaves were blown onto the track and debris flags popped out at each flag station. The organizers wisely decided not to start our session and we were flagged in and told we would go out again after group 5 and the crew cleared the track.
It continued to rain through group 5's session and when they called our group I could not screw up the nerve to go out so I and some others chose to watch as the braver and more experienced ran a great race in the rain. Predictably Manley won which he probably would have done anyway.
It was a tough call but my only experience racing in the wet was at Lime Rock a few weeks ago and BeaveRun last weekend. I'll come back next year and try again.
