PVGP Cruise

Peter:

In last photo...the white Sprite. That's Alan driving. The car used to belong to Col. Joe Hauser, a famous SCCA champ who was very successful in this (and other) Sprites.
Alan bought this car 6 months ago.

The Patterson Clan brought a bunch of other cars too. I know Alan raced in another session with (I think) an Elva.

Here's another shot of Alan's Sprite.

Mike:

That's George Vappa's SAAB Quantum. It was part of a series of experimental cars built by SAAB USA in the late 50s.

Thanks! I appreciate the history as well! Due to the rain, I was not able to talk to as many drivers on Saturday as the week prior at PIRC. It is wonderful that the pit area is open to everyone; lots of friendly folks. My 2-year old daughter loves the "noisy cars", as she refers to them. (She wears hot pink earmuffs... she can be a girl if she wants, but I'm doing my best to teach her about tools and mechanical bits!)

Nial, any info on that silver Elan?

Nial, any info on that silver Elan?

That silver/yellow '71 Elan is Joe Mendel from Pittsburgh (I do not know him).

There was also an early ('63) blue Elan owned by Bob Criss from Bethel Park, PA

By the way, when we were at Thompson, Conn a few weeks ago, we put Bob Leitzinger's 26R into the "Big Bore" class (with Shelby Mustangs, Z28s, etc). Normally, he'd run with the under 3 Liter Group (TR6s, etc) but he was just too fast. He ran away with the Big Bore feature race leaving all those V8s in the dust. He didn't run anything at Shenley.

BWUHAAHAAHAAAA!!!!

Gotta love it.

It was always a hoot to watch a nimble Elan run thru all the Big Boring Bois. :smirk:

That name is real familiar.
How long has he been racing?
