TR4/4A Puzzled about TR6 door seals on a TR4A

I'd like to put TR6 door seals on my TR4A, which I understand is a common thing to do. These are one-piece seals which fit over the flange between the rocker and inner sill, and I'm told they can replace the two-piece factory seal. I like the idea of doing this, as the channel for the outer seal in my TR4A is badly rusted, and this will allow me to remove it completely.

I'm puzzled about how the TR6 seals fit at the triangular gusset in the lower rear corner of the door. It seems to me that the rubber part of the seal will seal against the door panel, which really isn't what you want (picture below). Or, is there some way to get around this, short of removing the gusset?

Common practice is to remove the said channels.. fit the seal against the door panel and cover the triangular gusset with the same colour vinyl as the seats door trims etc.

So the seal really fits against the door panel? I'd think it would allow the corner of the door panel to get wet and leave a dirty mark, after a while.

On a TR6 the seal is lower below that corner gusset piece but I don't know if you have that option on a TR4

Thanks. I just looked into the TR6 setup--should have done that earlier--and finally found a couple good pictures of it. The one below shows both sides of the TR6 gusset. The parts cost only $17 each, so I think I might just take out the TR4 gusset and use the TR6 setup.

Does anyone see any potential problems in doing this? The TR6 and TR4A are so similar it seems to me that it should work.

Rut, those are the same as the TR4 gussets; VB sells them, too. Moss sells the ones that look like the picture below, as do a couple of the UK suppliers. I'm not sure why there are two; perhaps the early TR6s used the TR4 type, but I guess either works.
