OK, here's the dilemma:
According to the shop manuals, the front bearing on the A-series camshaft (but for some reason, not the other two) should be reamed to the precise size. The bugeye manual shows a special reamer which includes pilots to get it lined up perfectly. The later manuals mention reaming the bearing, but say nothing more. The Haynes manual doesn't even mention it.
So, does this bearing in a 1275 need to be reamed? And, why not the inner and rear-end bearings? If so, can it be done with an adjustable reamer or do you need to use something like the pilots to keep it concentric with the other bearings?
It seems unlikely that anyone still has that special reamer. And, since the bearing diameter is an odd size (1.667") I can't imagine anyone makes one that size.
