Putting a Spitfire 1500 into a 1972 Midget

Hi guys-I hope some of the regulars that I came to know when I had my bugeye are still here and doing well (it of course hello to all the new people but I'm going to meet).

As it happens I have a rusty triumph Spitfire sitting around that has a brand-new very nicely built 1500 engine. I also happen to know where a rust free, amazingly solid 1972 Midget happens to be. You can probably guess where the conversation goes from here. I will make sure to do searching to learn from all the conversations here but in a quick snapshot is this is practical of a solution as I'm thinking? Will the overdrive unit fit or should I be thinking about using the existing four-speed or maybe a five speed conversion?

I have a 1974 midget with a 1500 in it. It also has the j type od from the 1500 spitfire. A previous owner did the install and conversion.

I believe mods need is changes to trans tunnel and different drive shaft length.

Seems like the tunnel needs to be widened and a cross member cut to get the OD in there.

Does the engine bolt in (more or less).

Engine uses same engine mounting points and brackets i believe. The bracket looks the same from the parts pictures.
Remember I didn't do the conversion, so I don't know all the details.

It is easy to put a 1275 into a 1500 - harder to do the reverse. The front cross member is curved on a 1500 - that doesn't need to be for a 1275 car. There are transmission issues, though IIRC, the transmission will actually go in fairly easily - though the transmission tunnel will have to be widened a bit.
