Well, I plugged the muffler back up, and I'll keep it the way it is. If I get any problems, I'll just put the original muffler back on.

It's always handy to have alcohol nearby for when you cut yourself....

So you punched a hole in the restrictor, creating turbulence, and you're surprised its louder? Punch it out and I bet it gets quieter. Seriosuly. Less turbulence and the muffler is allowed to do what it needs to do, with straight airflow which it is designed for. You just increased velocity through a small free-flowing hole that doesn't allow the muffler to muffle.

If you're looking for a really good silencer rather than a performance muffler, buy the biggest muffler you can fit under the car. You know - one of those oval behemoths that the local Midas stocks.

I came across this post today. It got my attention because my Sprite has a beautiful chrome Harley muffler on it. I decided to remove the plug. punching wasn't working so I used a 1 1/4" hole-saw on an extension. It is definitely louder. It probably sounds similar to the sad looking stock tuna can, since it has no plug either. No problem......I'll just have to get a bigger amp

I'm surprised you couildn't knock it out. You gotta hit it hard. WE used a 1 7/8" hole saw at the H-D dealer to cut the baffles out. Yeah, all you have now is a big chrome exhaust tip.
