TR2/3/3A Pushing down the clutch pedal when starting the car?

Sitting at stop light some people feel that sitting with car or motorcycle in gear you can move faster in an emergency,like looking in rear view and realizing the car behind is not going to stop.
Not saying this is reasonable practice but I know some ,motorcyclist mostly,that do this.

Disengaging the clutch when starting was a way of life in cold weather, as with a marginally-effective 6-volt starter having the clutch out saves a little bit of drag from the transmission. Not a whole lot, but sometimes enough for a 12-below zero morning drive to work.
