Push SU fuel pump in Bugeye

NCBugeye has been out of commission for a while due to no space to house her, so she had to have a long vacation away from home. Now she is back, and has her own garage and is very content, sitting next to her much younger sister, a 2009 MINI John Cooper Works, exactly the same colour as she is, Old English White.

My question...

NCBugeye has had a 1275 engine transplanted from a 1974 Midget, so the previous owner installed an electric SU fuel pump under the bonnet. Since it is an AUF 301, one of the "push" type pumps, I'd like to move it to the same location as used in the later cars, ie in the rear, on the bulkhead just in front of the rear axle. I have the correct clamp bracket, or alternatively the pump has its own mounting holes and bolts.

What I need to know is how it needs to be attached. It seems that the vertical bulkhead is not the same piece of metal as the rear of the passenger compartment right behind the driver's seat, so there is a void there. How to I fix the pump to that void space? Does the later Spridget have captive nuts in the sheet metal?

A picture of the installation on a later Spridget would help IMMENSELY...

Think about mounting it up above the vertical bulkhead on the flat part.

Ah, but with an SU pump, you don't want to minimize the noise... There is nothing quite so nostalgic as the tick tick tick of an SU fuel pump.

Here is a picture of the bracket, as you can see it has the two mounting ends arranged at right angles, indicated by the red lines I added. So this would suggest it should be mounted with one end on the horizontal part and one end on the vertical part. Hmmm...

Excellent picture! That is exactly where I want to mount it. I think that is where that standard pump in later models goes too.

How is the pump attached to that vertical bulkhead?

The mount is a 90 degree angled piece of steel; the mount is bolted straight onto the bulkhead (with shims / washers at the lower bolt holes, between the mount and the bulkhead wall to keep the mount plumb) and the pump actually hangs from the three posts with rubber 'donuts', just visible at the top.

It's not quiet, but it's not much louder than the electric pump on my modern VW either. With the car running, it's not noticeable.

Yes, that is exactly what I need. Many thanks.
