We're trapped here and no plans to go anywhere. We've got 6" on the ground and are expecting 12-18. predictions are 3"per hour.

I drove from Morristown, NJ to South Jersey in it.
Blizzard the entire way.
Almost got creamed on Rt. 18 and later, Rt. 9.

I saw at least 12 accidents. One guy rolled a car over and it had a small boat on the roof!
At one point, the guy on my right spun out......and at the same time, the guy on my left hit the car in front of him. I felt like I was threading a needle!
My van ('09 Chevy Express Cargo 2WD) is terrible in snow so I was being extra careful; it took me 4 hours to do a 2 hour drive.

Most drivers were slower and careful, but a few were absolute idiots.

When I was almost to my brother's house, creeping along at 25 mph, a firetruck, with light flashing, came barreling up on me but turned off just as he caught me.
Later on today, I was at a local party and we figured out that the firetruck driver was a friend of mine. Small world!

We had our blizzard last week - 13 inches. On my way home from work I had to park the Vett a mile from the house and have the wife come rescue me in the 4x4.

Gosh guys, the Northeast looks bad.
We had almost 5 feet of snow the week before Christmas.
We have equipment so we can handle this.
I do hope everyone is safe and waits it out.
Good Luck, stay close to your 'puter.

over here in buffalo, ny we got a bunch of snow a couple weeks ago-shut down the I90 for awhile-some poor people where stranded on it for over 15 hours. Likewise we are used to this kind of snow but it doesn't mean we have to like it! I put the spit away right before thanksgiving and i'm glad i did because it started getting nasty early this year. Hopefully it means we will have an early spring...Lots of time to sit and work on my car during the cold winter.

Batten down those hatches, boys and girls. Looks to be a real storm up your ways.

Nasty.

We're even feeling it down here. Miami will see the lowest temps for this time of year in many decades. I hadda wear long pants with shoes and SOCKS for Christmas Eve dinner!!

...and they're seein' close to freezing overnight tonight. That region is ill-prepared for this kind of weather, many of the "shelters" are going to be overtaxed. It could turn into a real tragedy.

NASTY!!!

Just a dusting of snow here in the southern tier of NY, but the windows are rattling, and my roof-top weather station is catching a steady 10-15 mph wind with regular gusts of 20-25 mph and a few nasties higher that that. temp is 17F, with that wind chill hangin round 0. It's a wild night!

Wow- looks like your snow falls straight down- How odd....

And yet, here in Toronto, no snow to speak of, temp a couple degrees below freezing, the sun shining and all in all, lovely for this time of year. Hope you all make it through safely.

I feel for you all....we lucked out here in Eastern Nebraska only a couple inches from that storm....now last year 12" over XMAS Holiday..40 mph winds...drifts of 25' and no power on XMAS Day...Blizzard of 2009....we couldn't even get out our County Road until nearly a week the following Wednesday....so THANKS for taking the brunt of this one....HAPPY NEW YEAR

I'm also on Long Island, and just got done digging out. I'm getting to really hate this shoveling at age 64. I think for next year I'll have to get one of those snow blowers.

And no, moving down south is NOT AN OPTION. I hate the heat worse then the snow. I really like the change of seasons, so when I retire, I'll stay right here. Besides, once I retire, moving the snow will have less urgency and I can always wait until the spring if I like.

Time for a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Like Art, I'll deal with the snow. Not moving.

I *like* where I live....especially the fact that I'm near lots of family.

But our new house came with a almost new(used once), 9 HP snowblower. Electric start, 28" swath and with reverse. Nice.

Our new place has 200' of sidewalks that we're semi-expected to keep clear. It took less than 10 minutes to clear them with the new blower. We have a good-size driveway that was easy too.

In all honesty, this snow is par for the course in my experience. We always seem to get a few big storms each Winter. Sometimes we get at least one earlier, sometimes mid-Winter and sometimes a big one late in the Winter.

......we will send the Giants back home! :jester:

Apparently, they could have used my snowblower. They were stuck in your neck-of-the-woods for an extra day.

I've never been a real football fan, but nowadays, with one son-in-law that went to the U of Michigan and another who works for the NY Jets, it has become part of my life. We're pleased that the Jets clinched an AFC playoff spot (even if it was in a round-a-bout way).
