Pulling hard to 5500 and

then she just tapers off.

This motor is a fresh 3 main bearing with supposedly the moss "fast street" cam and a ported head. I can verify that the head did indeed look ported when I had the carbs off but cannot verify anything about the cam. I have the timing static timd at 10 BTDC and the vaccum advance hooked up. Carbs are darn near perfect as far as balance and mixture. Does it need more advance?

Just seems like my worn out 67 B would pull to past 6000 rpm easily when I was a kid.

It isn't about how high you can rev it, it's about where the power is delivered and how much it can produce. If it's pulling strong to 5500 then I'd say you're in good shape. From my experience, a stock early MGB engine will typically fall off after 5200 anyway.

Thanks Steve

I can certainly live with that, and like I said it does pull pretty hard.
What I'd really like to see is how well it runs at sea level instead of up here in Denver.

um... "better" would be my guess.

Sounds as if you're getting as much as it'll deliver, considering atmospheric pressure/density.

I wonder what 5500 RPMs would calculate to in 4th gear OD?
