pull starter set up

It is a manual switch, ie a manual solenoid if you please.
 
How about manual relay? Solenoid works for me too!
 
A solenoid, technically, is wire wound on a straight core (as opposed to, say, a toroid, which is donut-shaped), usually to create an electromagnet. A "starting solenoid" is more correctly a relay. A pull switch is...a pull switch!

Sorry if this is a bit pedantic....
