Property vandalized... you won't believe this.

I discovered a turd in my spa this AM.

Yes, you read that right: I went to check the chemistry in my outdoor spa this morning and discovered human waste in it. $10 worth of Lysol and several hours of sanitizing await me. I am just totally disgusted. We've had issues in the neignborhood recently with petty vandalism, but this just takes the cake. I was going to call the state police, but decided against it - what would they do but laugh? What is wrong with people; dont they have any respect for other people's property?

Heaven help the person why tries to do a repeat performance. I don't own any firearms, as I have small children in the house, but I'm thinking that's about to change. I'm also going to install a motion detecting light fixture. Unfreaking real...

I suppose it could be worse, they could have drilled a hole in it...

That stinks.

That's awful. Get one of those devices that fit on the end of a hose......they are motion-sensing, and activate a water jet immediately something crosses the sensor. Aim it at the spa.

That's in addition to the other "measures".

Blind Mullet. Not too good.

Guns aren't the answer. You aren't going to shoot a kid, but aiming a gun at him will create extremely hostile feelings in him and a strong desire for revenge. A surveillance camera would be a good idea. I kind of like the sprinkler idea too!

You might want to rig up a very very obscenely loud alarm to the cover. A pressure switch and maybe an old car alarm and a 12v battery should do the trick. Also lets you know if your kids are messing with it.

If it was me I would have a switch, compressor, 5gal air tank and the loudest set of train horns I could find as close to the mythical brown note as possible.

There will always be losers in the world that are jealous of what some of us get through our hard work and determination.

The only satisfaction you may be able to have is the knowledge that a person that does something like that is about 99% sure to end up living a rotten, horrible life. They almost always do.

For about 5 minutes I'd want a gun too, but in the long run, sensor lights and a more secure cover would be the better choice.

Thanks; I've calmed down enough to think rationally today.

The cover already has locks, but a determned vandal will probably just cut the straps to get it off, or just pry the clips out of the holders. Sort of like locking a convertible, if a thief wants in, he'll slit the top.

I'm going to install a pair of flood lamps on a motion sensor. The neighbors will hate it as they like to swim in their pool late at night (wink wink). They've asked me to keep my back lights off so they have some privacy. Sorry, but not any more.

I really like the horn idea, I need to make it self contained, I'm not supposed to have anything else electrical inside the spa housing, as it violates the NEC code. A small gel cell could probably run a horn for a few minutes. I'll encase the whole thing in a plastic project box and mount the horn on top. Need to scour the Digikey catalog for a switch though. Stay tuned...

Motion activated digital vid camera... non aggressive, no lights or noise: publish the results on a webpage and put a notice in the local paper.....

I still like the motion-activated hose attchment. Won't physically hurt anyone, but scare 'em and soak 'em. They are designed to keep deer and smaller critters out of certain areas of your garden.

No easy/practical way to plumb a hose in, given the position of the spa (on the center of a deck). Plus, it'll freeze during the winter months - I use the spa all year long.

That happened at our neighborhood pool. Some idiot kid and his friends decided it would be funny to all take dumps in the skimmer drain. There was so much crap in the sump area it was unbelievable. They had to drain the pool, disinfect it and chemically balance it after that - 8 days without the pool during the summer.

a security camera hooked up to a tv/vcr combo. Mine picks up things from about 30 ft away at night. I just put an 8 hour tape in and turn it on before I hit the hay

scott, thats a crappy thing to do /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif , around here the kids like to go driving around with a baseball bat busting up mail boxes a couple of years ago a bunch of em got busted for it and it cost them $500.00 each for every box they busted up and community svc. time. hay did ya save a small bid of the deposit for later d.n.a. comparison? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Paper my foot!! This is trespassing and vandalism. Both are crimes. A few days in jail will get their attention. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

A photo speaks a 1,000 words.
Get some photos of these scumbags.

Inside my gated community:

2 early twenty somethings, driving high performance,
race 4-traks thru the hood and laughing at all the
moms and dads w/ kids in the streets playing. Talking
to the parents accomplished nothing.

Your truly stepped into the back street, made them pull
over got into a great argument with the "boys" who told
me to F.off.

Next evening I took a few stills and short video clip.
Down to the police station. What do you know? Both
"boys" on parole for a drug deal gone bad.

The cops and the "boys" show up at my door. Do I want
them violated and back in joint? Or apologize to the
wife and rid the hood of the 4-traks?

Get some photos and go visit the cops. A crime needs
to be documented and then punished. You don't have to
put up this BS.
