Proper position of crankshaft for clutch removal

Finally got the engine out of the car and took the clutch cover off right away. I remember that you had to rotate the crankshaft to a certain position so that the "C" washer wouldn't fall out and jam the clucth assembly/flywheel.

Please share your experience.
 
Yes, you can have problems removing (or refitting) the flywheel if you don't have the engine turned so #1 or #4 are at TDC. Just look through the spark plug holes to confirm that these pistons are at the top of their travel before trying to use the puller.

Thanks for all your advise. I verified that the no. 1 piston was at TDC. This also showed the slots from the cranshaft in the 3 and 9 o'clock position. The "C" washer stayed right where it was. Clutch assembly came off without much hassle.
