Prop Shafts

Were prop shafts painted at the factory? Mine shows no evidence of it, just light surface rust. But then the tunnel was the only part of the tub w/o rust from the constant oil bath it received. And yes- I know it will never be seen- it's just the way I am.

I did find evidence of BMC olive green paint on a Bugeye driveshaft once, I know the engines, & gearboxes were painted green but I never thought the shafts were painted until I saw some green on a drive shaft.
I have powder coated a couple drive shafts myself.

I think you will find that prop shafts should be black. Gold old Rustolum.

Are you sure the gearboxes were painted green? Or maybe that was just on US cars? Since my European sprite had a red gearbox, and once upon a time my prop shaft also seem to have been black originally.

prop shaft....black
smooth case transmission.... green
ribbed case transmission.....unpainted

Thank you all; even though it won't be seen or rust away, it will get painted.
