Last of the engine bits arrived today. New plates for the valve cover, cover cap, and lifters.

All assembled now. Engine is ready to go in when it is time.

Only lacking is fuel pump and carbs. All buttoned up tight.

Will not torque head or adjust valves till I can turn it with the starter in the car.

Need to strip bottom of fuel tank and paint and then, and then, everything else is new or rebuilt or restored. Nice to work with clean hands.

Jack, write yourself a BIG note now to remind you that the head isn't torqued! Why not do it now, and be done with it until you get it running? One less thing to worry about.
The engine is on a stand, correct? I normally have the engine ready to go when I drop it in. Then I can just spin it until I get oil pressure, and fire it up.

Here are three pics of the preaty bits, Priceless.

Prob will torque the heads one day when son is over to hold the darn thing in place. As far as turning it to adjust valves I see no easy way till I get it in. It is real snug and getting it on TDC just for timeing chain was hard for an old guy, hehe.

Yep I have a stand but did not use it, found it easier to work right where it sits. It is on a heavy peice of card board and I can spin it around with one hand, never have to move.

Carbs are off having the throtle shafts redone and I have an orginial fuel pump that needs a kit, no rush.

That is awesome.
What's your eta to be driving?

Would like to do christmas but I supose funds will move that to next spring. Now it is going to get expensive with all the new bits and some big ticket items like. Electrical, brakes, interior, suspension, tires, grill, etc. etc.

I love these progress reports. Keep up the great work. The engine looks real sweet.

I've got to agree. Get someone to hold it down if it's trying to runaway on the stand and torque those headbolts down. Wouldn't be too hard to put a bar through the u-joint straps on the trans output to turn the engine to adjust the valves too....

Now there is an excellent idea, I do have a disacembled drive shaft that is no good. The transmission end just might work fine.

Ok, I give up, will get son over to set on engine so I can torque the head at least.

Jack great progress, with two questions.

Is the dipstick supposed to be yella?

Is the therm housing polished and not painted.

As always thank for your infinite wisdom aand research.

Polished housing and yellow dip stick to my knowledge.

Found this online about two years ago. Looks real nice. Figured you could drool over it for awhile, Jack. Ive got others of the undercarriage. Oh is it clean

Nice indeed but I think his generator is the wrong color, should be like engine me thinks.

Correct-o-mundo, Jack...your generator should be the same as the engine!

& your thermostat cover is correctly painted silver; however, I thought the water pump was engine color?

Jack, I like that oil filter housing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif, but a Fram filter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

First filter will only last a few miles. What type and number is best?

but a Fram filter

I'm sure its only on there to cover the hole until he installs the engine - then he'll put the real oil filter on it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
