progress.....red light OUT...next....oil pressure?

i finally got an alternator...now that ive changed ALL the electrical items under the hood the red light goes out like it should...thx guys....next...
my oil pressure is at 72 lbs and slightly more when revved...from my studies i see that it should be 40-70 when driving and "20" at idle....
all emissions are disconnected/gone.....any idea whats going on here...i like it about 60 personally but i dont know much about it..it seems it was correct for a time....till i "fixed" everything...go figure...zimmy

i believe it goes down a little but i dont like to run it too long so i dont cause any damage....it doesnt get anywhere near 20...ever...also its 50 degrees here..so it isnt cold out.....

Well if the gage is moveing it is working.

70 or so should be fine when running.

What is it at idle when engine at operating temp?

it stays around 70 lbs, somethings not right but at least its not electrical! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif is 20 lbs at idle a myth or what?

20 lbs at an idle is OK for a 1500 Midget but that is low on a 1275. What you have seems perfect. 70/50 is what I strive for.
60/40 is what I will settle for, 50/30 would be my minimum and anything else is low.

So, run it, warm it up. 70 ish is fine, means good tight engine.

Your by-pass plunger could be stuck. It is easy to check. I have found that some PO's will put shims or nut under the springs trying to increase pressure. Sometimes the engine sits and to plunger rust or gets stuck with debris. I had one stick on an engine I built. It was a spare engine that sat for a number of years. Blew the oil filter off on start-up. 100 plus pounds of pressure.

wheres the bypass plunger eh?
i heard 80 lbs was bad....id be happy with 60....
ill give her a 15 min warm up tomorrow and see what happens...cant drive yet as i need clutch hydros and tires.....ever so close!

You let that engine warm up properly and it will go down. I think you will find that 70psi when you first start it up isn't too bad. Course all my experience is with a 1500 the 1275 might behave a bit differently. But I promise you it will go down as the oil warms up.
