was working on the car last night installing the door panels/ handles etc. First off, I managed to loose a couple of the "plastic" plugs that the pull strap screws attach into. I think they are unobtanium. Anyway, plastic license plate plugs are a perfect fit.

As I was working, I realized that I am very very close to done. I will have to sort a few things like re-routing the hood cable/ fixing the ground on the gas tank sender/ and determining why I can't lock the doors from the inside but they are increasingly looking like next year projects (unless it rains)

No, she doesn't run but I hope to have that resolved this weekend. After that, top and trim and finishing painting the wheels is about all that is left. I am amazed by that and almost apprehensive. It's weird in that for the past five years, it has been building with no hard deadline. The doing has been more important than the driving. Now that is about to change. I must confess I look at the size of Hummers & Pickemups more than I did before - kind of like letting your child walk alone to school. Needless to say you all have come to be a very important part of this restoration and I am grateful. Just wish you were a bit closer to hoist that beer in person.

Thanks

Anyway, enough talk, here is my question. I have a new rubber cockpit surround. If you look at it end on, it is not symmetrical, one side is straight, the other slightly curved. I presume the straight goes on the inside - does it?

you guys are awesome!

I don't have an answer for the cockpit surround, but congrats on almost being done! Very exciting. Driving and maintenance are a whole new ball game, with these cars there is always something to do. But I'm sure after awhile, you'll be thinking about another project! lol

JP, I understand the part about the other vehicles out there.
I drive the interstate daily and there are also a lot of trucks, not to mention the air head lady drivers of Ford 350 super pickup trucks who just decide to change lanes into yours from right exactly beside you.
It's called getting older and wiser, and there's nothing wrong with it.
Embrace it, it may save your life.
I decided this year I'd drive my Midget through the winter.
I got my heater working good and went for it.
There were some moments out there that I had wished I had stayed home, but all in all I made it through. Now I have a lot more confidence in my car.

Wish I could help about the surround, I imagine (guess) the flat side goes on the body.
