well, today is going MUCH better than yesterday. will give a fuller report later.

first though, two wire harness questions for 1500 folk.

1. if you look between the coil and the wiper motor, the harness splits into three. the left goes forward to the headlights. the right goes to the coil/ battery stuff. the centre, a thinner line has a 3 prong female end. - what does that end hook up to?

2. If you then look down under the previous pieces, there is a line that has the plug for the oil sender and the brake sender. the line then continues about 2 feet to a male/female double prong - am I correct that this is the left side signal light?

thanks all

The 3 pin connector white/black, white, white/blue is the original connector for the distributor. If the car's ignition has been fixed per the service bulletin the connector should be left hanging.

If it is a single green/blue wire it goes to the temperature sender.

If it is a double green, green/brown it connects to the reverse light on the transmission. I believe there is an extension harness to reach the switch on the transmission.

Let me know if you need more help or pictures from a 79.

Phil

thanks Phil - I'll check

Phil - where is the switch on the transmission?

It is on the drivers side of the shift rail housing about 1/2" rearward of the shifter shaft. If you need a picture of the hole a DPO hacked into my son's transmission tunnel let me know. You can see the wires and switch through the hole.

thanks I'll look

still can't find it - can you post a pic?

thanks

Are you guys describing a rib-case tranny instead of a 1500 unit? JP, if you have a Moss catalogue, check p. 30 #59, that should help locate it!

Finally figured it out - thanks - I haven't looked to closely - does the sender just press on?

if the hole you are describing is rectangular about 3 inches long and looks kind of like two rectangles, the larger on top of the smaller, it wasn't the DPO it was British Leyland.
