Hi,,,,,

I need to make some patterns off of a fender and nose ,

I can use my friends car to take the patterns , and he is not worried about the paint as he is stripping it for new paint soon ,

Anyway its much larger than the 12-18 profile gauges you can but at home depot etc

Any other ideas ?

or something I can put on it (spray insulation foam ? ) that will harden pretty quick to get the profile ,

I am tryimg NOT to use fiberglass resin as I hate the smell /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

thanks for your ideas.....

I don't know why these are so expensive. Seems like it would be easy enough to make from parts at the local hardware store. 48" profile gauge

thanks

something like that might work,,,,,

any other ideas ?

cardboard and wood batons - like a boat

I need a closer fit than I can get from cutting cardboard,

I was thinking of getting the cardboard close fit and then putting something that will dry hard between the cardboard and the fender, , maybe window caulking or ?????

This way I will have a better fit.....

I've not done it this size but I've used a can of insulation foam in a plastic trash bag. I used a shallow cardboard box. Cut a hole in the back of the box. Put the bag through the hole. Shot the expanding foam into the bag while holding the box against what I was trying to match the shape. It hardens quickly giving a nice negitive after pealing the bag off. Maybe you can modify this for your fender in some way.

Wet the area you want to profile using liquid detergent.
Apply Saran wrap to the area, carefully smoothing out any wrinkles.
Put on a thin coat of plastic body filler.
Let cure and remove.
Nearly instant profile.
