Professionalism is dead

'tain't neither.

Shortest definition of professionalism I've ever heard: "Performance on demand."

If that ain't the case, you're dealin' with amateurs. Pick another outfit. Kissin' a plethora o' frogs will produce a prince sooner or later... Just like the blind squirrel.

And just like Scrat, you're chasin' a rainbow from the posts preceding.

Wanna vent? Send me a PM.

...I'm gonna regret this, I just KNOW it. :smirk:

Billy, I know the feeling. My boss treats me like dirt. Kind of big on himself.

And I'm self employed.

There are still some good ones out there. Mine is great and we run one of the biggest and most dependable computer services at the university. Too many bosses do not understand motivation.

Too many employ people and don't expect them to stay long so don't bother training them - i spent half an hour on the phone to an airline and ended up telling the representative on the phone what the policy was according to their website as she didn't seem to know.

Nope, nuthin to do with work. Bas' won't dig it. I kinda got the problem worked out. Doc is right, performance on demand.

Kinda sad cause it supposedly the biggest little outfit out there.

What kills me is I ~KNOW~ how it's supposed to go down. I am *the* ~LAST~ person you wanna go tit-for-tat or make excuses when I clearly gave instructions in case of problems.

Everything is going smoothly now. It's such a shame it had to come to what it did.

It makes me mad enough to pull the trigger and start my own. If I didn't have anything else going on right now I would.

If I ever do, I guarentee you guys will be happy!

That's a promise!

Oh brother!

Now shipping is almost 300% higher than estimated. Was $30's, now $92.

I don't see how someone can do something so wrong for so long and still be in business.

Planning on having a conversation w/ my boss's boss in regards to the "professionalism" at the level of leadership between them (boss's boss) and me...

There are rumors of "favoritism", and the word "untouchables" has been mentioned among my colleagues. So, I'm plotting my approach and trying to choose my words well. Though, tact isn't always my strong suit...

Neither is it mine. Be prepared to get axed. From what I've seen, boss' don't like to be told they are wrong....especially when they are.

Figure out how to get on the winning team. Some battles you just can't win.

You need to ask yourself, " Do I want to be right, or employed?"

Sounds like in your case you can only have one.

Sorry to say bro, but I'm right in there with ya....~believe me~, I feel your pain!

Sometimes you just can't get it right by going in the front door, but you can get in the back door and plot your way through. As cryptic as that advice is I am sure you get my drift. There have been times in my working life where I wanted to tell the guy above me what a stupid policy something was and just couldn't. One occassion the gent that owned the place had an oportunity to see me (I was doing a midnight backup/closeout of the point of sale computer system.) and he asked me how it was going. I asked him if this was confidential and he said yes. I then told him the story of the not being able to see the forest for the trees and why one procedure alone costs more dollars to monitor a potential problem then the cost of rectifying the problem should it occur. I suggested a monthly checking procedure instead of a daily. He was godsmacked! Shortly thereafter I was given a new title (no change in duties) but it came with a raise and from time to time owner would meet with me privately and just 'talk.' Perhaps such an opportunity could exist for you. Never, never use those red terms, such as stupid, d...head, idiot, etc. Phrases such as "Do you think?, Perhaps? etc. are best. I suspect you know all this and all you really have to do is 'curb your enthusiasm?"

Good Luck and remember dollars in your pocket are more important than I'm right in your head a/k/a ego.

Have I told y'all how ~wonderful~ I am lately?

I agree with that.

However, I have issues with backing down when I know without a shadow of any doubt that I am 100% correct, mainly w/ technical details.

Thankfully, the issue I have isn't a technical issue. So, I feel that I can bend a little. Though, if the discussion is fruitless, I plan to go up the chain until the issue is corrected. The company I am with is relatively small, and I do have direct access to the owner. I hope it doesn't have to get to that, though.

I believe if I take the approach of stating an observance of a particular behavior pattern, and its affect on the workers at my level in the company, I should be successful in avoiding the right vs wrong confrontation. I think if I make it more of a "Hey, this is happening, and it's having this affect on moral" kind of discussion, I may be able to pull this off...

That has worked before. Good luck
