my tr7 only runs with the choke on.as soon as i push the knob in it dies.it is also blowing out black smoke and backfiring in the carb and exhaust.i am not familiar with these carbs zs.has anyone had these problems and what to do to fix

Don't blame the carbs right off. They say 90% of these issues are more likely timing/electrical issues. I would recommend going through adjusting valves, checking the plugs, wires, distributor internals and setting the points and timing. From your description only, the carbs would be set way too lean so you may want to enrich them to see if that makes any difference for a quick check then you could check the fuel pump to see if it's keeping up.

Hi John, Sounds to me like you have a massive vacuum leak, first place to check on these is the silly rubber carb mounts. They crack and degrade and leak. Could also be a vacuum line off or cracked as well.
