amazing that is!

Cool machine!

"Thing-o-matic". excellent... a little homage to Wallace and Grommit there?
Very cool machine. Kinda like a reverse CNC mill.

So Nial. What did it cost to do that?
I've always wanted to see one, thanks

Staying with the art thing

The MakerBot kit we bought is about $1200. There are a number of places on the internet, including the ~Thingiverse~ and Maker Faire where they have home brew kit ideas you make yourself.

It is sort of like a reverse CNC mill. Adds material instead of subtracting material.

Sorry Nial, not the equipment.
How much supplies did that burn up and what did it use?

Oh.
The material is ABS. The heat nozzle runs about 215C, which *just* melts the stuff.

It's on a spool and looks like the "string" on a Weedwacker. The spools are pretty cheap (maybe $20 to $25 or so). The Yoda is almost solid so it used a fair amount of a roll (maybe 15 to 20%), but a better, hollowed-out design would use much less.

That is beyond cool. I always wanted to sculp.

Hmmm.... A plastic part maker that can be built for around $1000.... Gears are turning.
Currently I have access to a waterjet, mills and a lathe... soon we are adding a CNC mill and Lathe to the shop. I gotta take a basic machining class. There is very little that I would not be able to fabricate with the tools at my disposal. I just need the knowledge to do it.
