I cant belive the prices some of you guys are paying for parts! Do you by anychance get the jaguar enthusiasts club magazine (UK) over there? If so look in the back and there are loads of inependant specialists who have many stock parts and I belive that a lot of them do mail order. I Know we are not alowed to advertise on here so I wont name any of them! running a jag in the uk is expensive enough but those of you in the US seem to be paying almost double what you pay here.

We don't pay VAT...so it might be a "wash".

Besides, *we* can't believe what *you* guys pay for gas!

I had a header shipped out from Ireland by royal mail.. The header was used for L50.00..( my keyboard has no pound character..)It cost me L39 .00 to ship it and about $27.00 for Cdn broker fees... There is your double price, not to mention the horrible exchange rate on my money..

The prices do look good in the book though..

The secret is to find someone who travels between the UD/Canada and the UK regularly. I have our international sales guy haul things back in his luggage or carry-on all the time.
There was a Jaguar supplier that was an international pilot and when he had room in the cargo hold he filled it with whatever he could load in...no freight charge then!

Prices for the cars themselves are generally higher than in the UK too. Some exceptions seem to be for the Mk II and S-Type saloons, but they are creeping up in price too. I think that cheaper petrol has a lot to do with the disparity. Parts are cheaper over in the UK, but as was pointed out, freight will more than compensate for the difference. The only other alternative is maybe to get together as a club and invest in a container full of spares and accessories, only then does it become cost-effective.

When I look in the classic car magizines from the UK the prices are usually given in pounds not dollars . Isn't the exchange rate about $1.75 to the pound? The prices I've noticed on both parts and cars seem fairly similar until you factor in the exchange rate, then it seems like it's more expensive in the UK. And you are right , then you have the freight also.

Exchange rates change daily, but a good rule of thumb is actually $1.50 to the pound. If you look at prices of, especially, the saloons, (but including the XJ-S) you will see a wide disparity between the US and the UK. E-Types are about equal, as are any of the sports cars.

There's a couple outfits in New Zealand that are doing more and more business in the USA. I guess the exchange rate is very good. I know of several guys buying stuff from NZ.....

Just my 2-cents
