Pretty sure my overheating problems are gone.

Last winter I pulled the head and put on a new gasket and used that spray copper permatex stuff and that seems to have done the trick. I should have used it from the start because of the good luck I have had with aluminum heads.
Anyways, I have not even looked in the radiator since the last time I drove it. It was hot today and the wife and I took a trip in the midget up to Mt Mitchell (highest mountain in eastern US) and it heated up and the fan came on and it cooled back off, even had to stop for road repairs and it never got hot. Then from Mt Mitchell we went down Hwy80 (twisty old road) and to marion, NC which is flat land and it was hot as hades. From there we got on the interstate and came back up from Old FT, NC to Black Mountain, NC and that is one of the steepest climbs on the interstate on I40. I took it easy and just ran 55mph up the hill but it never even got close to the hot mark and made me feel real good about the car. I could drive to California now. No more eating water. I got all that extra cooling stuff still tied into the heater water circuit. I am now tempted to take that off. No need for the copper lines run to the back to the extra radiator (subaru heater core)now. It might come in handy for someone with a turbo rig or something that does have enough cooling.

fantastic! glad it's working, that was a vexing problem

Mt. Mitchell: 6684 ft
Mt. Washington: 6288 ft

Congrats Kim! I know some of those roads and they do put a bit of a work out on small engines.

Miss Agatha is pleased.

WTG Kim! Hot day and steep grades are a litmus test for
sure. Somehow I figured you would whup dat over heat Deamon.
Good on ya boy!

Thanks guys, yeah I had a big smile on my face on the way home after the interstate climb. This is the sign near the parking lot near the top of Mt. Mitchell, you have to climb the last bit on foot. It was actually cold up there in the high 50s I would guess.

We need to organize some sort of run up there. Even the hwy 80 coming down and bypassing the parkway is just made for spridgets. You can be giving it gas while the guy behind you in the big v8 is standing on the brakes.

Oh, and while we were up there we ran into two British couples. One couple actually lives in Charlotte and the other couple was visiting from Wales. Turns out that the guy visiting from Wales used to work for Smiths and made the gauges for British cars.

And he answered your questions, right?
