It's already been dipped and sealed, it seems like it would be easier to reinstall the fuel sender with the tank out of the car. Any reason not to do that?

Any tips on testing the sender if I'm going to use a NOS one? Cork seals from Moss etc need any special prep or extra sealant?

Thanks!

well a good way to check your sending unit, before install is to hook up the wires to the unit, out of the tank and put it thru its full range of motion while watching your petrol gage, I did a float up simulating full tank and a float down as in empty tank to see where my gauge needle was then you can do 1/2 float if you can figure that one, but give your gauge time to respond... have fun

now time to drink cold beer and change oil and filter

I tried working on my sender with the tank in the car, and I absolutely could not do it.

There was no room to maneuver, and I couldn't even get a special bent screw driver onto the set screws.

I think you're right. Install it out of the car--no question.
