Pre War MG Oil Pressure

Well I was tinkering on the Pre War MG and noticed something odd to me (please keep in mind that this is my first MMM). I noticed that the oil pressure gauge went up to 160lbs. While cranking the car without the plugs in it, the pressure went up to 75lbs.

Anyone have an idea of why these cars had such high pressure compared with newer vehicles?

Thanks,
Patrick
