PPG Paint?

I'm into R&M Paint right now....Rinshed-Mason is the full name, I believe.

Tony the generic name for RM is Limco. When you talked to major body shops, if they are honest with you, you will find out they use names like Keystone, Limco and Nason, which are all generics for the magor brands, always ask about generics, because this is the biggest scam in the paint world, it's all the same stuff, it's all mixed the same way. I don't know about you all, but I not going to buy Dupont instead of Nason, so they can pay Jeff Gordon more money /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

As Hap said, they all have generics. I have also used "Acme" (yes... like the cartoon products) which is a generic from Martin-Senour... which also makes NAPA's paints.

Sure it is made at the same place, but is the quality control the same? Something to think about.

I bought limco for the black stripe on the bottom of mine. For those who say don't mix and match brands, you can do it if you ask questions. The paint maker that I bought from does not even sell primers, they only sell specialty paints and said use with any good primer and can be cleared with any good clear (though I bought the clear from them). They make all kinds of high dollar custom paints, that give all kinds of effects, like chrome paint, and paints that change colors with day and night, etc. Also candy colors that you add to the clear and spray over the basecoats to give other effects. I have a feeling that most of their paint gets used on motorcycle tanks and things because of the price and all the effects it would be hard to do a whole car. If you are looking for something different in paint check out ALSA paints. Let me find their site....right here https://www.alsacorp.com/ Look under paints and additives. They have some very awesome and very expensive stuff.

Acme paint, how about that, you know that has got to be good stuff /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I know, I know. However, the Acme sprayed the same as the Martin-Senour and NAPA paints I'd used prior to that and it's been on the Triumph for 14 years. I can't complain about it.

Trevor's point is well taken that these lesser known brands from big names probably are different from their current products. However, I suspect that these paints are not inferior but are more likely to represent older paint systems/formulations from the big names.
