Anyone ever fitted rower steering to a Healey ? Someone I know drives a Healey with hand controls ( as he is lacking slightly on the leg count) steering one handed can be tricky sometimes !

Hey Douglas Bader drove his MG's during the war with NO legs (well tin ones!) but them he also flew a Spitfire

Whats rower steering?

Neil:

I've done an archive search and not turned up anything worth mentioning, but you could try asking the "Modified Healeys" people- stuffing big American V8s into Healeys might also involve changing out the steering and I've seen comments about using Pinto and Mustang units though not power steering per se....

and they've a website:

Hi Healeyneil,There are several cars which have been updated with Rack & Pinion steering.Consequently, its just a splash to add the power type rack .However,to prevent powerloss in the engine it will most likely require the addition of a Moraine pump and possibly an alternator.---Fwiw---Keoke

Modified AH Registry

I am the web master for the Modified AH Registry web site.

Every car that I know of that has been converted to R & P has used a Sprite unit.

I know of no big Healey that has power steering. There are a couple of Jensens that have it.

Within the past year, there was a guy named "Joe" from San Francisco who frequented this forum.
He was single limbed.

As I remember, he had some hardware installed to compensate for his disability.
