I'm the proud owner of a 1970 MGB! I made an offer and it was accepted, AAA will pick the car up and deliver it tomorrow at 2pm. I'm a very happy camper and be prepared to start answering all sorts of newBie questions. Thanks for all the help and insight, don't think I would have done it without your input.

Once I get the car home and snug in the garage I'll start on the fuel system and give it a good cleaning. I'll also pull the valve cover and put a dial gauge on the rockers and see if they are lifting the correct amount. I'll do a dry/wet compression test followed by a leak down test to see where I stand with rings and valves and I may just pull the head for grins. I'm guessing there's not a lot of difference between an A series and B series engine.

Congrats, Rut! MGB is a great car, you're making me miss my old one.

The B-series engine will feel like an A-series that's been enlarged 30%. Very similar in concept. Takes the same tools and many other bits (same distributor, same points, etc...).
 
My new B made it home today and I'll post pictures and updates of my trouble shooting.
