Okay,
I noted that I'm about to hit 300 posts.
Now I know the legends on the Forum pretty well and I know I'm nowhere near the voluminous information passed down by the pro's from Dover, however this being post 299, I'm cogitating(is that a word?} what number 300 will entail.
Stay tuned.

Bated breath here...

(See, that's how you run up your count: respond even if you have nothing pertinent to say!)

Winston is probably at the opening of the Iowa State Fair.

Well, are you going to do it, so we can see what happens???

I will tell you this much, you'll still be a trainee for a while if you don't start posting soon......

Some suggestions -
- Should I use DOT5?
- Is an alternator or generator better?
- What tires will fit?

Or my favorite:
- Any detailed technical question that does not mention what car you have.

Yes, I think it is.

+1 in my posting count.

Ladies and gentlemen,
My 300th post comes at a very interesting time in our passion for the marvelous things that history has left for our safekeeping.

I say we stay strong.

A young professional and his son came by to see "Ruby" on the word of one of the best in Des Moines.

This was the first time since I brought her home on Mothers Day 1998 that the concept that the old girl might have another owner (the TR4a not my wife) ever crossed my mind.

At first I was ambilivent, they were very nice and he had owned a tr3 in college and a spitfire when he got the bug again and I could see that he was looking for a project he and his son could share.

Here's the rub, after cogitating I decided "Ruby" was'nt hurtin anybody and she's probably better off with me behind the wheel cause she's a handful OR..................

Basil, please bear with me .

I thought it would be fun to dissect "Ruby" over the Forum and see just how much we could possibly spend to bring her to SCCA regs, keeping her street legal of course.

OK everybody................ put that turbocharger on the bill and let's rock!

What a great Forum and thanks to all of you who have patiently answered my questions over the year's.

Winston, if you can find any of Tabcon's threads, he built a text book TR4 engine with NO expense spared.

I would like to start with A Ratco frame.

I think I would spend the cold Iowa winter in the garage just admiring the possibilities.

Naturally "Ruby's" engine, hydralics and so forth would be handled at White Post and Healy Works.

Where are we at now , about $10,000.

Come on let's build a year one TR4a.

I made the mistake of tracking each expense of my TR3 restoration. I'd tell you where I'm sitting now, but I can't stand to look at the spread sheet. I only open it up to add the next line. For a few months the total was moving so slowly that I thought it really wasn't costing me anymore. Then I realized that my line count had gone beyond the 'sum' function. I recently made the realization that the 'bottom line' will not be the actual cost, simply where I stop keeping track. If you want my advise, don't count. -And all I wanted to do was get it running and drive it...

(But it did get my posts over 300.)

I think that's good advice. We all know the approximate costs to do these things to our cars, the exact price isn't important unless you can't afford it (in which case, you might need a little "attitude adjustment").

I've totally restored a few, including LBCs and a '70 Mustang. I carefully list all expenditures, date purchased and installed, and where bought on an XL spreadsheet, but don't add them up. Strange but true. Such documentation will pay off when you sell the car.

As long as it fits your budget, don't add it up. Hobbies aren't a business and shouldn't be treated as one. :yesnod:
