Were thinking of selling the farm and moving back to South Carolina to be closer to family. Not much to keep us here since loosing our youngest son a few years ago. Lived 35 miles from Myrtle Beach before and don't want to move back to that area anymore, possibly the Greenville/Spartanburg area with the foothills and prettier scenery and a lot fewer tourists. Actually, I can't stand Myrtle Beach!! :sorry:
Anyone on the forum from the Greenville area area? PJ
 
Not Greenville/Spartanburg, but if you're open to checking out the quiet side of the Smokies, let me know. Townsend and Wears Valley are great areas, and not far from SC.
 
You might want to contact Hap at ACME Speedshop.
He lives in Taylors,SC,& recently talked about how it's changed.
 
Paul, we should get together before you leave OK.
 
Paul - you've got family in the area, so you've got a rare chance to spend quality time with them, to experience the area(s), and to get feedback from people you know. Many of us would envy that opportunity.

But keep in mind what Thomas Wolfe wrote back in 1934. "You Can't Go Home Again".

Well, it's not going to be right away, with our diabetic Maltese and I'm the only one who can give her the shots she needs twice a day, it makes things quite difficult. Plus, selling off the place with all the equipment takes some setting up and a lot of time. Bottom line, getting tired of taking care of the place, in fact, I told the wife I'm thinking of going back to work, just to get a rest! Well, not really. :devilgrin:
 
Greenville would be the perfect place...
if there was a beach
 
Gosh, Paul, why go half-way? There's a charming little burg on the Gulf side down here called Englewood. Not too touristy, quite civilized and friendly. And we get a lot more than a two-minute warning if there's a Big Blow on the way. :wink:
 
HEy Doc, we're looking for a place to buy a condo, to live in during the winter months, on or 1 block off
What's the real estate like
 
Haven't much info on condo pricing down there, but would think it's more affordable than places like the Naples area or Fort Meyers. If you're looking primarily for beach access, I'd think the east coast would be better. Port St. Lucie, or Jupiter come to mind.

Well, Gulf side it is, then.
 
Once a month-one of the Saturdays I think - there is a sports and classic car meetup on the main drag Dearborn St. in Englewood. They get like 90 cars. Everything from hot rods to a 1934 Alfa Romeo. Several funky and very good restaurants. We met a guy from the Cape Cod area last year with a Morgan while eating outside. Plus there's Lemon Bay Park to walk in. We like Englewood. It's about 20 minutes from our condo in Venice. I also fish there off a pier.
