We are in NC. Eye looks to have missed us in Everglades by a good bit. Don't know about surge. Irma put about 4 feet of water in our yard, about 10 inches from getting in the house. Had a friend get my boat and truck out yesterday. Still checking for reports. Hoping for a Sheriff flyover with video later today as they did after Irma.
Doc- Where are you.

My son just built a new house in Port Charlotte a year ago and it looks like it IS the bullseye right now.

Across the "street" from the Florida State Fairgrounds. Staying in th' hovel. so far a couple power drops only lasting minutes, expect to be goin' "dark" overnight. Hearing transformers blowing out around us. We've had some bad blows here in the 35+ years, this is looking to be the worst even though it'll be just the fringes. Friend has a place in Englewood, expects to return to find water damage to the second floor rooms on return. Surge there may have put a ten foot surge up the wterway.
 
Same friend has likely lost a Caterham 7 to the storm.
 
Thoughts are with you and 'Smits, Bubba. Stay safe.

I know doc will be OK. Heā€™s had plenty of training in his military career to prepare for this.
 
Son got back to his place in Port Charlotte yesterday to find fairly minimal damage. He had kevlar screens on the lanai which saved a lot. Interesting, the screens survived but most of the aluminum frames were pretty bent up. No broken glass and no water in the house. Even the boat was undamaged. No idea when they will get power and water though.
 
All good here, tree limbs and much debris but we lucked out. Th' hovel stands, roof held up. Winds and gusting were worse than the rain, we had little effect from surge in the area. No power from midnight Wednesday 'til six-thirty today. Had three batches of coffee made ahead of the storm, re-heated in the AM as needed, with a saucepan and propane torch... Made "hobo coffee" this morning on the charcoal. šŸ‘

Poor folks south of us fared far worse. Friends in Englewood had little house damage, somehow the surge was averted. The marina fifty yards further inland was severely damaged by wind though. Many nice boats trashed.

As yet no real idea how many folks are true victims, lives lost. First reports of Boca Grande are depressing, two friends have homes on the island. No word yet.
 
Lots of BCF folk glad to see you back online. Sorry for all the losses, your neck o' the woods, and along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts.

Two important things I keep in my winter ice storm supplies is ground coffee and a percolator.
 
Sounds like you made it through without too much damage. Had me concerned for a while. Hope you are OK.
 
Thanks, Dar. We decided long ago we'd chance the occasional storm in lieu of severe winters. You've got it far worse for far longer than we do AFAIC! šŸ˜‰
 
You'd love it here Doc. 6 months of freezing cold and slippery sidewalks followed by 6 month of sweltering heat and road construction. You otta try it.o_O

Ummm, no thanks. Not unlike the western Pennsylvania/N.E. Ohio weather I spent too many years dealin' with! Da 'burgh could be un-navigable for th' potholes. An entire city bus was once swallowed up in one. We started planning our escape after the winter of '78, took another couple years to accomplish. I now consider myself a Naturalized Floridian. :cool:

Even the Tidewater area of Va-GIN-yah had winter ice storms! Lived there for about three years, on Buckroe Beach... great place in the summers tho.
