por15 for gas tank

I'm thinking of using POR15 for my Etype gas tank. It's not original of course but I think it would be helpful in preventing rust. Has anyone used por for a gas tank and if so how did it look? Don't care if it was a Jag tank.

Great video, thanks! Why did you use the chassis coat over the POR15?

POR-15 will eventually break down under UV light. We used it as-is on some gates on our house in Mexico. It's the only thing that stops metal from rusting down there. We had to re-treat them in 2 years because of the UV. Next time we top coated with Chassis Coat which will not break down under UV light. Haven't had to touch them them in over 5 years.

The bottom of the tank is exposed to reflective UV. I'm a big fan of anal-retentive overkill, so I figured I'd treat it with the chassis coat as well.

Ok, the tank on my EType is completely inside the trunk, and the bottom is not exposed at all, so I'll probably just use the POR15 and skip the chassis coat step.

If you have used POR 15 in the past just forget this post. If not, read the instructions and if you get even a drop in the rim of the can, forget about getting it open next time wthout ruining it.

I kept tissue around and thoroughly cleaned the rim. POR says have a mason jar or the like. Just empty the can and through it out. I can't get anything like that here.

We painted the entire chassis and underside of my dump truck with it. Worked great and it is tough as nails.

They have a free shipping deal on until Sep 7. I am getting 2 more quarts for my gates and cast park benches.

Thanks for the heads up! I guess I'll order the stuff today to take advantage of the free shipping!

Another EType owner who has user POR15 on his EType gas tank sent me some pictures. Here's his POR15-coated Tank in his beautiful red EType.

Dang. Looks pretty! I love how nicley POR-15 looks after painting. I use cheap chip brushes to put it down, and as long as the prep is good, the finish is near flawless.

I think I'm going to take the tank to my local radiator shop. They can chemical boil the tank which really gets all the rust out (and it has a fair amount of surface rust on the inside from sitting open for several years.

POR also has an internal tank paint.

I ordered the Cleaner, the Prep and a quart of black POR15. However, for the inside, a friend here who is a master Jag mechanic recommended a local shop to chemically clean out the tank and line it. I'm going that route for the inside of the tank just because I'm lazy and think for $100 it will be worth it to avoid the hassle.
