POR 15 between door skin + door shell expanding

Hi

my friend is redoing a door ,

his worker put thinned POR 15 on the inside of the door where the outer skin is connected to the door frame ,

on the outside you can now see bumps from where the POR 15 expanded between the door frame and pushed out the outer skin.

he ended up scrapping the POR 15 out but had to redo the bottom of the door,

He has done concours winning restorations for 20 plus years and never ran into this.....

so just keep it in mind.....

I have been using POR-15 for about 15 years and have never had any problems. and I make sure it gets into the seams, but I've never had it expand before. but I have never thinned it out either so maybe that had something to do with it.

From the POR-15 website FAQ sectiion:

"HOW DO I THIN POR-15 IF I WANT TO SPRAY IT?
You should use only POR-15 Solvent for thinning. Keep lacquer thinner handy for clean-up. Do not thin POR-15 more than 5%."

This sounds like a bad chemistry lesson took place.

thanks guys , just got back in town,

I will ask what it was thinned with,
his helper did it , so I am guessing it was way more than 5%
