Have any members tried the engine oil addative ZDDPLus and what do they think?..Also transmission oil, 30wt non detergent vs detergent, ive been running 30wt non but im thinking of going to a heavier oil and maybe calm down the noise im starting to hear in the overdrive, and is there a torque setting for the rear wheel nuts that hold on the rear hub (spoke wheels) thanks ,Mikkus
 
I put 4 onces of the ZDDP that Eastwood sells in my 100/6 this past spring, but I don't know what to tell you I think, as it would be pretty difficult to speculate on results without clinical tests under controlled circumstances, followed with a teardown and analysis.

I'm just going to bask in the knowledge that I'm doing the best I can :wink:
 
I use Redline MT-90 in my transmission. Don't be fooled by the "90". It's like
a 20 Wt. Shifting and OD are shooth as silk. This 3000 gets rubber in 3 gears.
Check out their Redline website....not cheap....but the healey is worth it.

I just hope that "popouire" isn't some kind of profanity in an obscure foreign language. Google doesn't have much to say about.

I'd suggest a less obscure subject title for ease of search and understanding.

Per Wikipedia:
Potpourri is a mixture of dried, naturally fragrant plant material, used to provide a gentle natural scent in houses. It is usually placed in a decorative wooden bowl, or tied in small bags made from sheer fabric.

Just to bail out mikkus. A little misspell, I think. He is probably just using as a metaphor for a bunch of questions on the same thread.

I have never ever added ZDDP to my oil and after reading this article will not waste my money. I have put over 30,000 miles on my '76 TR6 since the engine re-build 15+ years ago. I used 30W non-detergent oil during break-in and after break-in started using Mobile 1 20W40 synthetic oil. I change the oil once a year in the spring and I do not have to add oil during the season. The engine modifications include forged .030 pistons changing the ring package with Deves rings. I had the cam reground to the Triumph S-2 specs, roller rockers and installed valve seales. I also removed approximately 3/8 inch from the head increasing the compression to 10:1. I run 97 octane pump gas with no pinging. Modified the distributor adding vacuum advance, adjusted the advance curve and triple Zeneth carbs. When I drive the TR6 I drive very aggressive.

The BJ7 will be my touring car... Since I am in my late 50's the BJ7 engine will be completely stock. If I feel agressive I can drive the TR6 built in my early 40's.
 
I have been using the same oil as used in the engine, Castrol 20W50 for the last 5 years, no problems. Recently I drained the transmission oil and OD and refilled with "purple" 90wt transmission oil purchased at O'reilly's auto parts. Noticed quicker OD responses both accel.. and Deaccel... Plus, the transmission shifts real easy. No long term effects noticed.
It's expensive, about $9 per qt. Couldn't locate a local redline distributor and didn't want to pay shipping. The O'Reilly tech looked up MT90 and said "purple" had same ingredients.
 
Wow, i didn't think potpourri(thank you) could cause such a stur,i can butcher words with the best of them, Jim and GregW are right, a French word (metaphor) for many things, all that flower stuff sounds like what the hippies used to try in S.F.
Reed i would never try to slip something by you and get the boot, i would never have found out about sawdust, is it redwood, fur, or pine, i want the best.

Now what about the last of my Popouire( Potpourri)question? the Torque setting, im going with 60 ft lbs

Hi Mikkus,
Transmission oil and engine oil are rated differently. So 90wt tranny oil has a similar viscosity to 30wt motor oil IIRC. You can do a search for Redline with Dave Russell in the user field to get a good explanation.
