And there's also things I notice from current series, closing music sometimes as well as during scenes. So a few minutes to look it up online, and if I like it or other things that group/person does, may add some to my list. One of the nice things about today's tech and wide spread of shows and stuff, exposure to things I would never have run across before.
Most of the currently/recently produced music I listen to wouldn't really be considered "pop" - either new artists doing very traditional-sounding country (its surprising how many modern country artists do have some really traditional sounding works on their albums, but you'll likely never hear them on the radio) or going across the ocean and musical spectrum for European heavy metal.
I don't have a great deal of exposure to new music. The only time I'd even usually mess with the radio these days is in the car, and since my daily driver lost the radio a couple years ago I don't have that, and since the internet doesn't serve my area there is no streaming options where I live.
I'm sure some of it is good, but previous posters had a very valid point about how what we hear as "classic" music (regadless of genre) has survived the filter of time. Even Mozart and Bach wrote a lot of stuff that no one listens to outside of academic settings - they had clunkers that didn't become popular too.
I'm particularly fond of the music they play at my gym. One group in particular has a singer with a deep and hoarse sounding voice that he still is able to project as a whining 4 year old. Totally unique.

Bob,
What is wrong with that picture????
1. You are at the gym.
2. You have music piped into the gym (we called that Musak).
3. You are in a group of people that like or don't mind #1 or #2.
4. You are NOT in your car on a twisty road exceeding the speed laws.
