Pondering buying one, torn between slightly used (10K miles) 04, or a new one. Any opinions about these out there???

From their description - "It nods to premium sports cars but offers all the advantages you seek in a 5-door. It balances a spirited engine and impossible to ignore looks with boundless functionality.

Sounds like the worlds best car. Personally I would call it a station wagon which is practical for sure. Would never say it nods to sports cars though. I like that Chrysler wagon better with the hemi but imagine it is a lot more money.

10,000 miles on a Toyota engine is nothing. If the used one is cheaper, it's worth looking at.
One thing: if you're financing it, the rates will usually be far less on a brand-new car (sometimes, to the point of making it cheaper).

It is basically the same car as a Toyota Matrix, which my niece has - trouble free car. I think the Vibe is better looking than the Matrix, and don't get me started on the Aztek! I think the Vibe should be a useful, reasonable car.

Are you looking for the 180hp, the 130 hp, or the 130hp awd. All are good cars, but they have quite different personalities.

From what I've heard the 180hp variant is a bit lame. It uses the very peaky Celica GTS motor which even lacks low end torque in the lighter sporty car never mind a heavier wagon. Doesn't deliver much punch until over 6000rpm. Not ideal for a family-mobile. The 130hp with a 5spd and fwd is supposed to be quite a pleasent family car.

The 180 hp version has had reliability problems in the Celica.

Something I was surprized to read.

Well, I brought the 04 home overnight last night, and was very impressed, goes great rides great, and has great headlights. I took it back this AM and looked at a 05 they has on the lot (both 130HP automatic) and even with the power moon roof and the Monsson stereo, was only about 3K more. I didnt have to worry about financing, however the rate for the 05 was 2.9% for 36 mos. or less. As we speak I am the proud new owner of the 05. Ended up financing 5K because of the rate. I will put about 200 miles on tomorrow (half of that with 500 lbs. of cargo, I'll let you know more tomorrow night.

Well drove the Vibe 210 miles today, had it loaded with about 500 lbs. for about the first 75 miles, drove at about 75 MPH, and did about 40 miles of city driving as well. Got up to about 90 deg. here today. Car averaged 30 MPG performed great. Only thing I noticed is that the AC seemed a little wimpy, acceptable though.
