Pontiac gone with the [economy] wind . . .

But honestly though guys... how many of you did not see this coming? I know I have expected to see a violent down swing in the American car market for at least 10 years now. You sleep in the bed you make. Good news is, it looks like Ford is going to come out of this with its head above water, partially by selling back parts of Mazda, and tossing TATA the old British lines. Too bad we may not see the same outcome for GM and Chrysler.

Anyways, Pontiac, I bid thee farewell, as all good things must come to an end.

I would be willing to bet that the cream of the crop from Pontiac and Saturn are going to go on, just with Chevy, Buick or Cadillac name tags on them.

I hope that turns out the be the case. I absolutely love the look of that Saturn Sky. I think is the best looking modern car, well, right after the 09 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, but who can afford that?

Almost done before they even start, since all current Pontiacs are shared GM products to begin with.

The Solstice is basically the same as the Saturn Sky and Opel GT,
the G8 is a Holden Commodore,
the G6 is on GM’s generic Epsilon platform ala Chevy Malibu and Saab 9-3,
the G5 is a rebadged Chevy Cobalt,
the G3 is a Daewoo and already sold as a Chevy Aveo,
the Torrent is essentially a Chevy Equinox (GM’s Theta platform),
and the Vibe is made at Toyota’s joint factory with GM, which means it’s mostly a Toyota Matrix and can be rebadged as anything GM wants.

pc.

The only ones that other US Divisions don't already have are Solstice/Sky, G8 and Vibe.. I'm thinking something like the following will happen........

Solstice - Chevrolet
Sky - Buick
Vibe - Chevrolet
G8 - Chevrolet

There will most likely be model name changes, but the cars will survive.

In this week's Autoweek "FLASH" section under the heading "Oh, and the Firebird is dead, too" they state: "....both the top notch rear-drive G8 performance car from Down Under and the Solstice will end up on GM's growing scrap heap. Neither model will be rebadged for use by another division." GM says.
I find it hard to believe, but Autoweek's accuracy in reporting is pretty good.

We just returned from Disney World, and there's a GM showroom after you exit the Test Track ride. The ride was fantastic, but seeing those Pontiacs made us sad...

...or really sort of reminded us of our own garage, where none of the marques except Lotus remains in production!!!
