TR2/3/3A Pondering the unthinkable with my TR2

Banjo, you could test the waters by putting it on eBay with a big reserve. If it sells, you get your price. If not, you're out a few bucks for the ad.

I've been in your shoes before with cars myself. Don't view it as the end, but maybe the beginning. Someday, most certainly you will get another TR. And it's entirely possible that the next time, it will be MORE fun!

The cars come and go, but the desire stays. If you sell, there WILL be another one . . .

Good luck, let us know.

Ben,

I was in the same situation with my '64 Lotus Elan.
I had the car for 15 years ("under restoration"),&
realised that I'd never get it done.
I told my Wife when I bought it,that there was
"no way I could lose money on it".I was wrong, but was
able to pay cash for a TR6,& have money to fix it up.
The new owner ended up putting $75 - 80K into it!
Do what you have to do - but think it out first.
Family comes first,& having a car around that doesn't
run, with no money to restore it,seems like a logical
decision.
I also sold a (2) Ford Consul Capri(s) that way.
I didn't think I'd ever restore them,& broke even on
the deal.
It hurts to admit defeat - but that's reality.

I have continuously regetted selling my TR3 back in 1986. My 3 was a project car tthat had been running and money was going to be tight. I started looking for a replacement within a few months after my wife decided to go back to work the day I sold the car!! I truly feel your pain. As for putting car away for several years...I've never seen a car get better over time in storage.

As for a trade, let me know via PM if you have interest in a round tail Spitfire. I now have two Spitfires and one (or both) needs to go. They are a lot smaller than a 2-3, but they handle so much better. The round tail was ground-up restored by me and runs fine. The square tail is still in progress and not yet runnning, but the engine has been done to European specs with a hotter cam. The round tail currnetly has a 1500 OD tranny, but it could go in either. Also have a Ford Type tranny for a conversion.
