Has anyone here installed poly bushings in their Spridget? I have done this many times on other cars and it required burning out the old rubber to reuse the sleeve.

I was working on the trunnion bushings on my Bugeye and they have no sleeves, but there is a metal insert (inner sleeve?) on the stock rubber bushing......do I need to reuse this or just install the poly as it came out of the wrapper (using nothing from the old bushing)?

Polys are a direct replacement but keep in mind that the car needs to have some "give" in the suspension. I did a full poly set up on one of my Sprites and it was the worst driving car ever. Hit the white line in the road and it would change lanes. I only use poly on the sway bar mounts now.
 
Thanks.....so no need to reuse anything from the rubber bushings, right? (just want to clarify that)

My car came with a brand new set of rubber bushings when I bought it, so if I don't like the poly I can easily switch back (albeit a few dollars poorer).

FWIW, the poly bushings I got seem "softer" than the bushings I've used in the past on other cars.
 
As I recall the metal inserts would not go in my poly bushings from Vicky Brit, so I left them out and not problems so far. It is a bit stiffer but much better than the wobbly loose wornout rubber ones that I had. You get more road feel. I put my steering rack together pretty tight. It was one of those things where one more shim was too loose and one less was tight, so I left it tight hopeing it will wear in some and get just a bit looser. One thing I have noticed is that there is a stretch of interstate here that has grooves cut in it and with my wider tires and stiff steering the car really gets wierd on that stuff.

Thanks for the input everyone. I got the trunnion bushings done and will wait to do the conrol arms until I pull the engine out next weekend to do a clutch job.
