No thanks. I can't see it being very strong compared to a properly designed aluminum or steel wheel. And I bet it isn't any lighter than aluminum.
 
I can see it being strong enough for driving around, but not racing. I like the look, though...on a modern car...without drum brakes.
 
I wonder how well they handle below zero weather and potholes?. They are three piece design though. The 22" wheels are 2" thick!
 
yeah, I took note on that thickness too. certainly not a 'performance' wheel, IMO.
 
Currently only 20" or 22". Put it into the pure 'Bling' category in my book. Especially for our cars. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
 
heh... 22" wheels on our car would look ridiculously preposterous! It would resemble low profile monster truck tires... o_O lol

I think it would be impossible to lower our suspension enough to make 22" wheels look any other way.... heheh
 
Wheels? What wheels, I was too busy watching the model. Isn't polycarbonate what they make bullet-proof glass with?

They did say its the same stuff the shuttles windows are made out of. Tough stuff. They also had a chat about trying to keep them cleaned of road grime and brake dust.

What they really need is transparent aluminum. A guy in San Francisco has been trying to figure out the matrix of the molecule since 1986 when he got it from a Scottish engineer.

I've been waiting for it to become affordable (not holding my breath) for use in cars. Imagine no more cracked windshields, and the glass becoming a structural part of the vehicle!

The windshield is already a structural part of the roof,
actually, it has been since the early '70's, when the
manufacturers started gluing them in...

However, I'd like to see her in a polycarbonate dress...

True, but a metal windshield would be far more useful as a structural piece. It could take a tremendous amount of load away from the cassis without cracking like glass. It would probably also weigh a fraction the amount of glass. Hmmm... maybe I need this for my GT's rear hatch. That thing weighs a ton!
