POLL - Default Style

Now that I have a few other "Styles" developed and available for the forum, I thought I'd take a poll to see what the sense is about changing the "default" style. The Default style is what new users will see when they first visit the BCF and it will be their style when they register unless they change it in theor Preferences page. If you are unfamiliar with "Styles" it is a setting in your My <u>Stuff</u> >> <u>My Preferences</u> page that allows you to set the way the forum looks to you. Each style has unique colors and icons, headers, etc. You can preview the available styles in your <u>My Preferences</u> page. The current "default" style is Dessert-Sand. So, here's a poll question:
 
I have personally switched to Rolls Royce (it just feels "classy") but I think for general ease of viewing everything, to a new viewer, Desert-Sand presents the best option. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
 
Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways, but I <u>like</u> Desert Sand. It's what I've had on since it was originally offered. I looked at the other options, and landed right back where I was.

It’s hard to choose since I like different styles for different reasons. I voted Desert_Sand because the information is easiest to process for my brain. The text stands out on the background well. I also like that new posts are highlighted in red (a much different color than the rest of the text). Though, for new users, I guess there would be a lot of red. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I think they're all pretty good. Your display influences how a scheme looks - what looks best on my desktop isn't necessarily best on my laptop because that display seems to wash out certain colors.

I think for new users the forum ought to be distinctive and eye catching so they're tempted to stay and look around. It shouldn't look like any other. Therefore I'd go with Rolls Royce as the default.

That will probably be the next variation I work on. Maybe a little different than teh old Union Jake style, but still very similar.

I've tried them all for a few days each & just like the default.
 
So far the Dessert-Sand is winning, with RR a distant second. I'm surprised really because the Dessert-Sand was just something I threw together quickly without much thought.
 
I personally like Rolls, but I think the Desert sand is a nice universal "starting point". It's pleasing, and basic, then you get to play and go fancier if you like.
 
Maybe I'm just getting old & blind. I prefer to set my own colors. Links = blue, visited links = red, background = white, text = black. Anyhow, it's much easier for me to read - not nearly so "busy".

Guess it depends on whether you want to be entertained or have clear non-distracting information. I use the same colors on all web sites. Except for the few that use white text on a black background. Fortunately, there are not many.

Well, it looks like Dessert Sand is the winner. I'm surprised because that was the first style I made and I really just threw it together quickly. Ah well, there will be more styles in the future as I get the time.
