polishing carbs

Here are my carbs after being polished and rebuilt by Gary Martin. This is before I touched them up for the last car show. Three years unpolished.

I just polished some air filters for the TR3 that I got off ebay. -like I don't have more important things to be doing. Only one is done in the picture.

Well Im sold on "Billit". Bill could start a new class at the shows; use a light meter to check reflection in the engine bay, highet indication wins.

Is all that going to fit, without having to massage the inner wing? I realize the HS6 carbs are shorter than the stock H6, but you've got the longer TR4A manifold and air cleaners that hang down lower than the stock ones.

I had to make a sizeable dent just to fit TR4A filters on the stock TR3 carbs & manifold.

The answer, sadly, is no, it won't fit without making some dents in the fender. We opted to replace the TR4 intake with a TR3A intake ($50, polished) sourced from ebay to avoid having to mangle the fenders and/or the new air filters (when we got it, it didn't have air filters).

By mistake, my Father ordered the smaller H4 carb filters. We modified (drilled) these to fit the HS6. After seeing how close to the fender they sit, I'm glad we didn't get the (slightly) larger filters.

Don't forget that the engine rocks significantly on it's mounts, especially under hard acceleration and cornering. My "rule of thumb" is that if you can't fit your thumb between the filter and fender, it's probably going to touch under some circumstances.
